Vice Chairman, Website & Social Media - Peter Jones (M0LMG)

Peter Jones

Having taken my exams in 2023, I'm a newcomer to the hobby.  I've always had an interest in shortwave broadcast radio, and have great memories of building crystal sets with my late father.

My main interests are hunting rare DX, supporting people into the hobby, and getting outdoors with amateur radio. With the encouragement of other club members, I've recently started building my own equipment and experimenting with electronics.

Before retiring in 2023 I ran a company which supported Further Education Colleges with system implementations, Government data returns, and Ofsted inspections.

Other hobbies include gardening, travelling and retro computers.

Treasurer - Zander Sheppard (M1YAP)

Zander has the crucial responsibility of looking after the club finances.  It's a role that he carries out with great attention to detail.

Zander is an expert in the field of programmable gate arrays (FPGA), and happily shares his knowledge with other club members.

When not wading through spreadsheets, Zander enjoys operating on remote Scottish islands with Islands on the Air, singing, and driving his Land Rover.

Secretary - David Wilde (M0WID)

I have been a radio amateur since 2010 so still learning!  I have not studied electronics but love making things. It is more fun when something doesn’t work- then you have to really try to understand how it works to fix it.

I am active mainly on the HF bands, but can often be found on GB3MH repeater while out walking after work.

Programme Secretary - Stewart Bryant (G3YSX)

Stewart is a long time member of Crawley Amateur Radio Club. He is a past President of the RSGB, and currently RSGB Chair. He is also a distinguished engineer, and expert in internet Network Layer Technologies.

When not volunteering for the RSGB, Stewart enjoys flying model aircraft.

Social Secretary - Richard Hadfield (G4ANN)

Richard is an expert in repairing all kinds of electronic devices. From his workshop in his converted garage, he works absolute wonders!

The Club's marvellous Christmas dinners are organised by Richard, as are other social events throughout the year.

New (Free) Map Program for Amateur Radio

Some of you may be familiar with the software of Simon Brown, G4ELI.  While still working full-time he was the creator of the then free Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) suite of software which he sold a few years ago. Since then he launched the excellent SDR Console software which is a "must have" for anyone experimenting with SDR Radios.  I'm sure some of you this installed on your shack PCs. Less well known is a great little utility simply called "Simon's World Map".  The newly released V1.5.1 is available for download here  https://www.sdr-radio.com/world-map   As ever with Simon's software, it's richly featured with satellite tracking and rotator control.  The presentation is widely customisable allowing overlays such as ITU or CQ Zone, sun and moon overlays and space weather information plus greyline visualisation. Take a look as the price is right, FREE. Regards Mike, G0KAD
