From Our Roving ReporterWho is doing what? New projects. News of others etc.
ATV - 12 April 2006 1915 - 21 -00 G3WSC Club Stn. 23cm ATV Milestone QSO Full simultaneous duplex video and duplex sound QSO. Local Op was Keith G8KZZ with Maurice G3WKI in Crawley following completion of commissioning work on new 23 repeater. Outgoing FM sound via 6.5Mhz sub carrier on picture, incoming sound via 144.750 MHz FM. Good colour pictures both ways. Shack was full of members who could all converse via the open duplex mike. Welcome back to Liam M0EPX who has re-joined the club and who has been busy getting qualified in Switchgear and Electrical power engineering. Liam was soon busy during last Wednesday evening's " natter" session [19th April] giving an impromptu tutorial on transformers and power flow etc to a small audience in front of the white board! Welcome also to Paul G7KBR who is now back in the club and picking up where he left off with his 2m amplifier project. Talking of amplifiers, Alex M3YAP is rumored to have plans for a 2 x 4CX250 QRO linear! Watch this space! Liam M0EPX and Alex have agreed to pick up together with Eugene G0VIQ, the long-standing plan to install one of the two club-owned 25ft pump-up masts in the Club caravan Peter G4FYY demonstrated up at the club a very nicely made assembly containing 2 stepper motor driven variable capacitors, one coarse and one fine, made from PCB material and controlled by a PIC to auto tune a loop antenna. This offers the possibility of overcoming one of the drawbacks of a loop with its narrow bandwidth needing constant re-tuning across the band. This could be a very important development. Keith Evans G3VKQ is looking for one of those popular Japanese meters 100uA or 1mA - not the small size about 2x2" but the slightly larger size for a restoration project. Call Keith on 01444 412414. Hon President was observed back in action but still in a wheelchair after his long absence undergoing several knee operations stripping out the innards with the aid several helpers a very large commercial ClassA amplifier comprising 8 x 40w ultra linear modules covering 500kHz to 30Mhz. Five of the modules have already been modified to each give ~ 200W PEP SSB! After the recent major clear-up at the Clubhouse (thanks to Keith G8KZZ}there was enough space last Sunday morning to push back the tables to provide a nice big area of floor space for Lech G3KAU for a indoor flying demonstration of his latest" toy" , an electrically powered helicopter with contra-rotating twin rotors! |
