VLF

Operation on the VLF bands is something of a specialist interest and a number of CARC members have been involved from the early days following the initial release of a very narrow band allocation at 73kHz and later the release of a 2.1kHz wide sector centred on 136kHz .

The 73kHz allocation was later withdrawn in 2003.but to mark its passing, CARC President G3GRO in conjunction with Jim Morritz M0BMU mounted an expedition to the Eastern Telegraph Museum site at Porthcurno in Cornwall in order to establish the longest distance record for a 2-way QSO of 650kM in conjunction with David GM0MRF/P up in Scotland . before the band closed. [See Archive section – “Low Frequecy Expedition .to Porthcurno“]
